Alan Clarke - Executive Director, Advanced Electric Vehicle Development

On August 11, 2025, Ford Motor Company announced it is once again taking a revolutionary leap forward in engineering and manufacturing to bring a new family of affordable, high-quality electric vehicles within reach for millions around the world. The announcement revealed the Ford Universal EV Platform, which enables a family of affordable vehicles to be produced at scale for customers – electric, fun to drive and digitally advanced with over-the-air updates that will keep improving the vehicle.
Alan Clarke leads the Advanced Electric Vehicle Development Team at Ford Motor Company, a role he assumed in January 2022. In this capacity, Clarke is leveraging his extensive experience in electric vehicle development and vehicle architecture to drive innovation and shape the future of Ford's electric vehicle lineup.
Before joining Ford, Clarke dedicated over 12 years to Tesla, where he held increasingly senior roles, culminating as Director of New Programs Engineering. During his tenure, he played a foundational role in the design and development of the Model S. He also led advanced vehicle development for nearly every subsequent Tesla vehicle, including the Model X, Model 3, Model Y, Roadster 2.0, and Cybertruck.
Clarke's career began with a strong foundation in motorsports. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UC Davis, he gained experience at Honda Performance Development, designing race cars for the American Le Mans Series. Clarke and his wife, Patricia, have three children and reside in Southern California.
